Alexandra Zsigmond (b. 1982) is a New York-based visual artist of Greek and Hungarian descent. Her drawings, paintings, and works on metal explore how symbolic and metaphoric modes of thought become encoded into visual lexicons of all kinds. This exploration is research-based and interdisciplinary, grounded simultaneously in art history, philosophy, and archaeology. Her recent metal work expands upon the ancient tradition of votive offerings (tamata)—metal plaques which are used in the Greek Orthodox church to pray or give thanks for healing.
